Server downtime on AdToll explained

February 3rd, 2008 by Dan

AdToll DowntimeFor over 4 years our company has used the services provided by Superb.net for our dedicated server requirements, of which we have many. In that time we have experienced very little downtime - the Superb.net SLA promises a 100% network and server uptime.

Over the last week Superb.net have been having some power outage issues, which has affected a lot of dedicated server clients, including us.

Outages that have occurred in the two weeks are:

22-Jan-2008: 2am-6am (4 hours)

30-Jan-2008: 10pm-12am (2 hours)

03-Feb-2008: 1:30pm-3:30pm (2 hours)

Below is the service announcement Superb.net support put out to their clients during the time of the outage today:

DCA2 Servers located in rooms G &H

The McLean, VA area is currently experiencing a power outage. While approximately 80% of DCA2 clients are unaffected, clients on Liebert UPS #2 protected by generator #2 (dual-engine 750KW) - the install of which is pending to be completed by February 20th - are currently without power, due to the affected UPS batteries being drained and the new generator connection not yet being completed due to building landlord, county, and US Dep’t of Justice, caused delays for the said install.

A roll-up generator is currently under way, and if at all so permissible by the landlord and the county, the roll-up generator will be kept on site until February 20th, by when generator #2 connection is to be completed.

We understand this is a huge inconvenience to our customers but unfortunately these sorts of issues are out of our control. We do endeavor however to minimize these interruptions and will do all we can to ensure they do not continue to happen.

Using an IFRAME to stop sites loading slow

During times of downtime we realise ad serving can be slowed on Publisher sites affecting their entire site load time. It is this reason we do recommend the use of an IFRAME. Using an IFRAME to serve your ads will stop your site loading being dependent on ad serving - meaning your site won’t load slow if ad serving is slow or unavailable.

For more information on IFRAMEs and how to use them read http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_iframe.asp
