Using PicText™ Ads as your banner Default Ad setup!
Many of you know that we provide a Default Ad facility for AdToll banner ad groups. This allows you to display ads from another network (or your own personal ads) in replacement of the AdToll Run of Network ads - giving you complete control of your ad inventory! Read more about Default Ads at http://www.adtoll.com/publishers.php#da_1
As an example for Publishers I have taken this a step further hoping that it gives you the initiative to perhaps try it with your sites.
What I have done is used our own PicText™ Ads as the default ads on the 120×600 ad group on our blog (left hand side under the 125×125 ad group).
Why would I do this? Quite simply to ensure ads are being served on that 120×600 ad group and to provide variety to readers of the blog. This in turn attracts more clicks on that ad group and hence more revenue!
How did I do this? Well I am going to spell it out for you so that you can try this for yourself.
Step 1: Ad Group set up
To start with you need to make sure you have your banner and PicText™ Ad Groups set up.
In our case (seen on the right), we have our 120×600 and the PicText™ set up.
Get the banner Ad Group running on your web site if it isn’t already.
Step 2: Set up Default Ad page
To set up your Default Ad you need to supply a path (URL) to a page. This is the page that will contain the ad code for the PicText™ ads.
What you need to do here is go to the Ad Group Layout screen for the PicText™ Ads. You then set it up so it is the same size as your banner Ad Group, so in our case we set up our PicText™ Ads to 120×600.
You then open a blank text file, add your HTML tags (with BODY tags to remove margins) and past the ad code in. It should look something like this:
<HTML>
<HEAD>
</HEAD>
<body marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" topmargin="0" bottommargin="0" leftmargin="0" rightmargin="0" bgcolor="#FFFFFF">
<style>
.at_table_style_11698546 { width:120px; height:600px; background-color: none; padding: 3px; }
.at_table_cells_11698546 { padding-bottom: 1px; padding-top: 4px; padding-left: 3px; padding-right: 3px; vertical-align:top; text-align:left; }
.at_other_cells_11698546 { padding-bottom: 1px; padding-top: 4px; padding-left: 3px; padding-right: 3px; vertical-align:top; }
A.at_title_11698546 {font-family: Arial,Sans-Serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-weight: bold; font-variant: normal; text-transform: none; color: #798700; text-decoration: none; }
A.at_title_11698546:hover { color: #B8C903; text-decoration: underline; }
.at_ad_body_11698546 {font-family: Arial,Sans-Serif; font-size: 11px; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; font-variant: normal; text-transform: none; color: #5B5B5B; text-decoration: none; }
A.at_adv_here_11698546, A.at_pow_by_11698546 {font-family: Arial,Sans-Serif; font-size: 10px; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; font-variant: normal; text-transform: none; color: #798700; text-decoration: none; }
A.at_adv_here_11698546:hover, A.at_pow_by_11698546:hover { color: #B8C903; text-decoration: underline; }
.at_image_border_11698546 { border-width:0px;}
</style>
<script type="text/javascript">
adtoll_num_ads = 4;
adtoll_see_your_ad_here = 0;
adtoll_your_text = "";
adtoll_show_powered_by = 0;
adtoll_layout_style = 'V';
adtoll_view_desc = 1;
adtoll_image_size = 25;
adtoll_bullet_html = "";
</script>
<script src="http://adserve.adtoll.com/js/at_ag_11698546.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
</BODY>
</HTML>
Save this file onto your PC (as a .HTML file) and upload it to your web site.
You can test to see what it looks like by going to your browser and typing the URL in the address bar. It will look something like this: http://www.yoursite.com/default_ad_file.html
It should show the PicText™ Ads in the size you set them up as, so in my case they appear to be a 120×600 banner.
Step 3: Set up the Default Ad for your banner Ad Group
Now that is set up you then set up the Default Ad details on your banner Ad Group. To do this you go to the edit screen for the banner you want to use the Default Ad on, in my case it’s the 120×600.
Once there, find the Default Ad set up area. Supply the path to the page you just set up and select a weighting. My example can be seen to the right.
Once you have that filled in then save your changes!
Step 4: Enjoy!
That’s all you have to do!! In a short amount of time you will see your new Default Ad set up in action.
You can see we have it running here on the blog in the 120×600 Ad Group on the left hand side. It’s great because it means our readers are actually being served ads instead of the standard “advertise here” default ads (in the case no RONs are available).
